Learning Objectives:

1. Learn about your projects

Find a Rock Report:

Find an interesting rock in your yard. Study the features and determine the following:

• Type of rock
• Minerals rock is made of
• How the rock was formed

Find a Topographic Map of Your Area:

Learn how to use the National Map Viewer to:

• Learn about local topography
• Learn about local geological formations
• Download current and historical topographic maps of your area
• Identify geological formations in your area using a topographic map

Fossilize an Insect (optional):

Fossilize a dead insect or two using a clear casting epoxy. Watch how this works:

 

 

• Casting epoxy
• Small plastic measuring cup
• Mold

Design a Topographic Map:

• Design a digital topographic map
