Lesson 31: Kourdakov, Part 9, Chapter 13
Reading assignment: Chapter 13
It is best if you read this chapter before viewing the lecture. It is a longer chapter than normal. The next chapter will be shorter than normal. After viewing the lecture, view the video, a movie clip. (I hope it is still online.)
In the 1970 movie, Ned Kelly, starring Mick Jagger, there is a scene in which Jagger is in a bloody boxing match. The director added a ballad sung by Waylon Jennings, “The Pleasures of a Sunday Afternoon.” The mood and lyrics of the song are in stark contrast with what we see on the screen.
Kourdakov used a similar technique in describing the description of the team’s pleasant Sunday picnic. It contrasts with the bloody afternoon’s beatings and murder.
