Reading assignment: Chapters 7-9
The chronology of chapter 8 indicates that the Apaches saw no whites in between 1858 and 1868 (p. 114). But there were repeated confrontations between the American troops and Apaches. Chief Mangas Coloradas was murdered while a captive in 1863.
Chapter 8 in begins in 1862. It continues through the summer of 1865.
The chronology is way off in chapter 9. The chapter begins in the fall of 1865. It speaks of Mangas-Coloradas as being alive in 1867 (p. 81). The editor mentions this discrepancy in endnote j (p. 218).
