Description
The videos do the heavy lifting. All you have to do is go to the daily lesson, click the video’s play button, and observe how your child does. Also, you must print out the worksheets and hand them to your child. The pace of the program is controlled by the parent.
Students learn online guided by a certified teacher. They learn at their own pace. Videos can be stopped to review information if needed or re-take assessments. Students take charge of their own learning.
The purpose of the Kindergarten 1 English Course is to train students to connect sound and symbol together (ie. know that the symbol ‘d’ represents the sound ‘d’), and to develop their phonemic awareness (be able to manipulate sounds); therefore, a bulk of the course will be spent on learning sounds and doing different kinds of exercises. Students will be sounding and saying words throughout the course, but the goal is not to memorize the words and build up a word bank. This will come later – do not be in a hurry.
We believe that English is a phonetic language, hence we do not teach letter names. In this course, we will cover 26 single phonograms and 32 multiple phonograms (their sounds and their writing). Because students have not yet developed fine motor skills at this stage, we only teach students to write big letters.
Through different exercises, we train students to recognize specific phonograms, to hear specific sounds in different words, and gradually, to sound simple one-syllable words.
We have short stories to get students used to hearing English. Stories are broken up into fiction and non-fiction stories, so students are able to accumulate vocabulary from different themes.
